1. New Afrika Shrine
The Shrine is the home of Afrobeat in Lagos and the best-known night out in Ikeja. It is an open-air venue on NERDC Road in Agidingbi, founded by Fela Kuti’s daughter Yeni, and it hosts the annual Felabration festival celebrating Fela’s music. Sundays are the big night: the “Sunday Jump” performances start around 7pm, when Femi Kuti usually plays, and a late-2025 guide put entry at ₦2,000. On other days entry was free, with drinks, food, billiards and space to hang out.
2. Kalakuta Museum
Fela’s former home at 7 Gbemisola Street, off Allen Avenue, is now a museum. You can see his bedroom, clothes and memorabilia, and his grave is on the grounds. According to the November 2025 WakaAbout guide, the museum opens daily and tours cost ₦7,500 per adult, while the terrace bar at the top (reached by a spiral staircase) could be visited without buying a tour. Older guides quote much lower fees, so treat any figure as a guide and check on arrival.
3. Ikeja City Mall
Ikeja City Mall on Obafemi Awolowo Way in Alausa is the main shopping and leisure centre on this side of Lagos. It has local and international stores, electronics, restaurants and cafes, a cinema, game arcades, banks and a pharmacy, so it works for a rainy afternoon, a family day or a date. Entry is free; you pay for what you buy, eat or watch.
4. JJT Park and Ndubuisi Kanu Park
For fresh air, Alausa has two public parks close together. Johnson Jakande Tinubu (JJT) Park overlooks the Lagos State House of Assembly complex and is a quiet place for a stroll or picnic despite the traffic nearby; a late-2025 guide listed entry at ₦1,000. Ndubuisi Kanu Park on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way has gardens, walking paths, outdoor fitness equipment and a children’s playground, making it a good family option.
5. Art spaces: Yusuf Grillo gallery and GALARI
Ikeja has a quieter art scene worth seeking out. The Yusuf Grillo museum and gallery is on Ogunlowo Street, off Awolowo Way, and GALARI, a contemporary art space, is off Allen Avenue. Opening times are not widely published, so call or check their social media pages before visiting.
6. Ikeja Golf Club and GRA
The Ikeja Golf Club at 23B Oba Akinjobi Way in Ikeja GRA has a nine-hole course and a clubhouse with a bar and restaurant. The leafy GRA streets around it also have hotels with restaurants, pools and spas, such as the Radisson Blu at 38–40 Isaac John Street, which suit a relaxed lunch or evening drink.
7. Computer Village and Ikeja markets
Computer Village is often described as West Africa’s largest electronics market, packed with phone, laptop and accessory sellers and repair stalls.
