Privacy Policy
Trust is our product — and that starts with being straight about your data: what we collect, why we collect it, who ever sees it, and the rights Nigerian law gives you over all of it. The numbered legal text binds; the gold notes translate.
Who We Are
Travo.ng ("Travo", "we", "our", or "us") is a technology-enabled logistics and transportation platform operating primarily in Nigeria, with support for international shipping and cross-border logistics. For the purposes of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 ("NDPA"), Travo is the data controller for personal data processed through our website, mobile applications, and services (collectively, the "Services").
Questions about this Policy or your data can be directed to the contacts in Section 14.
Data We Collect
Data you provide
- Account information — name, phone number, email address, and password;
- Identity verification (KYC) — government-issued ID details and verification documents, where required for regulated services, rewards eligibility, or partner onboarding;
- Booking details — pickup and delivery addresses, recipient names and phone numbers, shipment descriptions, declared values, and delivery instructions;
- International shipping data — suite numbers, customs declarations, item descriptions and values for cross-border shipments (including our UK address service);
- Business account data — company details, staff contacts, and invoicing information for subscriptions and corporate services;
- Partner data — driver, rider, and fleet-partner identity, licensing, guarantor, vehicle, and bank details;
- Communications — messages you send us on WhatsApp, email, in-app chat, and support channels.
Data collected automatically
- Location data — GPS positions of riders, drivers, and managed vehicles during active jobs, and addresses associated with bookings;
- Transaction records — amounts, timestamps, payment status, and references (card and account details are processed by payment providers, not stored by Travo);
- Device and usage data — device type, browser, IP address, app version, and how you interact with the platform;
- Cookies and similar technologies — as described in Section 11.
Delivery Evidence & Photos
Our services operate on an evidence culture: shipments and jobs may be documented with photographs and records, including pickup and delivery photos, packing and consolidation photos (including parcels received at our international addresses), proof-of-delivery images and PINs, receipts for purchases made on your behalf, and custody logs for document courier services.
This evidence is collected to perform the service, confirm completion, resolve disputes, and protect customers and partners against fraud and theft. It forms part of the transaction record and is retained per Section 9. Evidence photographs are not used for advertising or marketing and are not sold to third parties.
How We Use Your Data
We process personal data to:
- Provide, coordinate, and complete the Services you book;
- Verify identity where required for security, regulation, or rewards eligibility;
- Process payments, escrow transactions, refunds, and payouts;
- Communicate delivery notifications, shipment updates, security alerts, and customer support (see Terms, Section 11);
- Prepare customs documentation and comply with import/export requirements for international shipments;
- Operate loyalty and referral rewards, including fraud controls on reward eligibility;
- Manage partner relationships — dispatch, fleet management statements, and driver operations;
- Prevent, detect, and investigate fraud, impersonation, theft, and platform abuse;
- Improve the platform's performance, safety, and usability;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms;
- Send marketing about Travo services where permitted — which you can opt out of at any time.
Legal Bases for Processing
Under the NDPA, we rely on the following lawful bases:
- Contract — most processing is necessary to perform the service you've booked with us;
- Legal obligation — customs declarations, tax records, regulatory KYC, and lawful requests from authorities;
- Legitimate interests — fraud prevention, platform security, evidence records, and service improvement, balanced against your rights;
- Consent — marketing communications and any processing not covered above. Consent can be withdrawn at any time without affecting services you've already used.
Who We Share Data With
We share personal data only as needed to operate the Services:
- Riders, drivers, and operational partners — the job details necessary to perform a booking (names, addresses, phone numbers, delivery instructions);
- Payment providers — to process transactions, escrow, and payouts;
- Freight, customs, and logistics partners — shipment and declaration data required to move international cargo;
- Technology providers — cloud hosting, communications (including WhatsApp Business), maps, and analytics services supporting the platform;
- Professional advisers — lawyers, auditors, and insurers where necessary;
- Law enforcement and regulators — where disclosure is required by law, court order, or to protect against fraud or harm;
- Business transfers — if Travo is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, data may transfer as part of that transaction under equivalent protections.
We do not sell personal data.
International Transfers
Because we operate cross-border services — including our United Kingdom receiving address — personal data connected to international shipments (such as your name, suite number, shipment contents, and delivery details) is processed in the countries involved in moving your goods, and may be handled by our partners and providers outside Nigeria.
Where personal data is transferred outside Nigeria, we take steps to ensure it receives protection consistent with the NDPA, including contractual safeguards with our partners and transfers permitted under applicable law.
Data Security
We apply technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit, access controls limiting data to staff and partners who need it for their role, payment processing through accredited third-party providers rather than storing card details ourselves, and monitoring for unauthorised access.
No platform can guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that risks your rights, we will notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and affected users as required by the NDPA.
You play a part too: keep your login credentials secure, and remember that Travo only ever transacts through official channels — our verified WhatsApp line, travo.ng and services.travo.ng, and corporate bank accounts. See our Safety page to verify any contact claiming to be us.
Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy:
- Account data — for the life of your account, then deleted or anonymised within a reasonable period after closure;
- Transaction and evidence records — for the period required to resolve disputes and meet legal, tax, and audit obligations;
- Customs and shipping documentation — as required by import/export law;
- Communications — as long as needed for support quality and dispute resolution.
Where data is no longer needed, it is deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
Your Rights
Under the NDPA, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- Correction — have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected;
- Deletion — request erasure of data we no longer have a lawful basis to keep;
- Restriction and objection — limit or object to certain processing, including direct marketing (which we will stop on request);
- Portability — receive data you provided in a structured, commonly used format;
- Withdraw consent — at any time, for processing based on consent;
- Complain — to us first if you'll allow us to fix it, and to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) in any case.
To exercise any right, contact us via Section 14. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we respond within the timelines the NDPA requires.
Cookies & Tracking
Our website and apps use cookies and similar technologies for:
- Essential functions — sessions, security, and remembering your preferences;
- Performance — understanding how pages are used so we can keep them fast and light, which matters on Nigerian networks;
- Measurement — knowing which pages and campaigns bring people to Travo.
You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may affect how the Services function.
Children
The Services are for users aged 18 and over, consistent with our Terms. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy periodically. Updated versions will be posted on our website and applications with a revised effective date, and material changes will be highlighted. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
