- 23 November 2025: After a security meeting with service chiefs, President Bola Tinubu directed that police officers be withdrawn from VIP protection so they could focus on community policing. Reports said VIPs wanting protection would request armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
- 10 December 2025: The President directed the Minister of Interior to work with the Inspector-General of Police to replace withdrawn officers on special security duties, so people are not left exposed. Those with genuine security concerns were told to go through the IGP and obtain presidential clearance, with the NSCDC stepping in where needed.
- Private guards: More than 3,000 licensed private security companies operate in Nigeria, regulated by the NSCDC under the Private Guard Companies Act. According to BusinessDay, private guards cannot carry firearms under current law.
