What is Uber Black?
In markets where it runs, Uber Black is Uber’s premium tier: newer high-end cars, experienced drivers with high ratings, and a higher fare than standard UberX. It is aimed at business travel, airport runs and occasions where the car matters.
Uber Black availability in Nigeria: current status
Uber did offer a black-car tier in Lagos. A September 2015 Uber Nigeria blog post describes two options in the city: UberBLACK, with cars such as the Mercedes C, E, ML and GL, Toyota Prado and Kia Sorento, and uberX, with cars such as the Kia Cerato, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla and Honda Accord.
Uber’s current pages are different. When we checked in September 2026:
- Uber’s Lagos city page lists ride requests, Reserve (book up to 30 days ahead), group rides, guest rides, Uber Rent and UberTaxi, but not Uber Black.
- Uber’s Nigeria vehicle requirements page gives requirements only for UberX in Lagos and Abuja: a four-door sedan from 2000 or newer, seating at least four passengers, with working windows and air conditioning.
- Independent listings such as RideGuru show UberX as the Uber option in Lagos.
So the safest answer is that Uber Black does not appear to be a regular product in Nigeria in 2026. Uber changes its line-up by city and sometimes pilots new tiers, so the Uber app on your phone, set to your pickup location, is the final word.

Premium ride options on apps in Nigeria
- Uber Reserve. Not a luxury tier, but it lets you book an Uber up to 30 days ahead, which helps for early flights.
- Bolt Comfort and Bolt XL. According to The Condia’s September 2026 roundup, Bolt offers Bolt Go (economy), Bolt Comfort and Bolt XL (for larger groups). Comfort is the closest app-based step up from a standard ride, but you are not guaranteed a luxury car.
- Other apps. The same roundup covers inDrive, LagRide, Rida, Shuttlers and SimpliRide as alternatives. Each has its own pricing model, and none is marketed as a black-car service.
Bear in mind that on any app, the car you get depends on who accepts the trip. If you need a specific class of vehicle, for a client pickup, a wedding or a VIP arrival, app-based rides are a gamble.
The reliable alternative: pre-booked executive cars and chauffeurs
For a genuinely premium ride in Lagos or Abuja, book a car and driver in advance. With a pre-booked service you can:
- ask for a specific vehicle class, such as an SUV, an executive saloon or a bus for a group;
- agree the price before the trip, rather than facing surge pricing;
- arrange airport meet-and-greet, with the driver waiting at arrivals with a name board;
- keep the same car and driver for a full day or several days of meetings;
- add security escorts for high-profile trips.
