Air Mauritius cargo booking normally involves a freight forwarder, cargo agent or interline partner. That matters if you are an individual sending boxes or a business arranging an import: first ask which agent can prepare and book your shipment, then obtain acceptance and a complete quotation.
The airline’s official cargo FAQs state that it accepts consignments from those professional channels. They also confirm that unaccompanied baggage can travel as cargo and direct customers to the airline’s offices for rates. A passenger booking or an excess-baggage purchase is not the same process.
Air Mauritius cargo contacts and booking scope
The official cargo support page lists cargo@airmauritius.com for cargo-related enquiries. Ask which office or agent is responsible for your origin and whether they can assess the requested goods and date.
For a business shipment, clarify which party arranges collection, prepares transport documents and receives the goods at the airport. For personal effects, ask about contents, packing and customs requirements before delivering boxes to an agent.
Prepare a complete shipment brief
- Origin and destination, shipping date and delivery deadline.
- Contents, package count, gross weights and dimensions.
- Any batteries, liquids, chemicals, perishables or fragile items.
- Sender, receiver and destination collection contacts.
- Required airport handling, customs assistance or road delivery.
Air Mauritius freight rates and payment
Request a quote based on the final package count, dimensions and weight. Ask about chargeable weight, minimum charges and included screening, documentation and terminal handling. State whether the delivery endpoint is an airport facility or an address.
The cargo FAQs say charges may be billed to the consignee with prior approval. Do not assume the receiver can pay on arrival without that agreement. Clarify payment currency, quote validity and who pays destination charges, storage, customs-related costs and onward transport.
Special goods and handling requirements
Air Mauritius describes services for temperature-sensitive goods, live animals, valuables, dangerous goods, heavy items and human remains. Those are specialist enquiries requiring the appropriate approval and documentation. Describe the actual commodity and required handling conditions in the first request.
For batteries, liquids or other restricted contents, ask the responsible agent to identify the acceptance process before the shipment is packed for dispatch. For large equipment, send photographs and individual measurements. A general freight quote should not be treated as approval for undisclosed special items.
Schedules and airport handover
The airline provides an official cargo schedule search. Use it as a planning tool and obtain confirmed space for the actual load. If a connection is proposed, ask whether the onward movement and handling are confirmed together.
Get the receiving facility, opening hours and cutoff from the booking contact. Retain the accepted reference, packing list and required trade documents. Tell the agent if the contents or measurements change so the booking can be reassessed before handover.
Collection, clearance and delivery
Give the receiver the cargo release contact and identification or authorisation requirements. International goods may need clearance before collection, and cargo availability may be later than the flight’s landing time. Arrange onward delivery around the confirmed release process.
For temperature-sensitive consignments, ensure the receiving team and suitable storage or transport are ready. For personal effects, agree who can collect on the owner’s behalf if the owner is not at destination.
Air Mauritius cargo questions
Can an individual use the passenger booking form for freight?
Ask the cargo office about the appropriate forwarder or agent channel instead.
Can the recipient automatically pay the freight charge?
Consignee payment needs prior approval under the published cargo guidance.
Can unaccompanied baggage be sent as cargo?
Yes, subject to the cargo process and acceptance requirements.
Turn your enquiry into a workable shipping plan
For someone relocating with personal effects, prepare a detailed contents list and decide who will receive the boxes after release. Ask the agent whether the quote includes origin collection and delivery at destination. For a business importing stock, the priority may instead be confirmed piece acceptance, an agreed importer and a warehouse receiving appointment. If the receiver will pay the transport charge, obtain that approval before dispatch. These decisions should be settled before comparing the headline flight cost with another shipping option.
Compare the complete quotation
Ask for the total payable for the same shipment and delivery endpoint. A lower flight charge can leave screening, storage, handling and road transport to be paid separately. Check the quotation’s expiry date, payment currency and what happens if the flight changes. Identify who will notify the receiver when the cargo is ready and who pays for a delay in collection. Keep written acceptance with the booking reference before releasing the goods.

How Travo can assist
For a consignment travelling into or out of Nigeria, Travo’s international shipping service offers freight coordination, supplier collection and consolidation, customs support through licensed clearing partners and onward delivery. If imported stock needs holding before distribution, ask about warehouse storage and fulfilment. Request the scope for your actual origin and destination, including any overseas partner arrangements and local delivery charges.
Request a shipment plan from Travo with your collection and delivery addresses, goods description, dimensions, weight and deadline. Ask which services are included, which need separate approval and what the delivery estimate depends on. This lets you coordinate the ground journey with the airline’s confirmed acceptance.
