An aircraft charter enquiry should begin with the mission: where you need to travel, when you must arrive, how many people or goods are moving and what facilities are available at each end. “Airplane”, “small plane”, “private jet” and “helicopter” describe different possibilities, but no label alone establishes a suitable or available aircraft.
Compare the aircraft categories
| Aircraft request | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Airplane | Scheduled passenger flight, whole-aircraft charter or cargo movement. |
| Small Plane | Exact model, usable passenger or cargo capacity and suitable operating locations. |
| Private Jet | Specific aircraft offered, itinerary, passenger and baggage acceptance, and charter terms. |
| Helicopter | Purpose, landing locations, operational suitability and passenger or cargo requirements. |
Scheduled ticket or whole-aircraft charter?
A passenger who needs to fly from Lagos to a city served by scheduled airlines may find a suitable ticket more practical than a charter. Compare the available dated itinerary, baggage and ground transfers with the charter proposal. A charter can be useful for a particular group or operational brief, but it is priced for the complete aircraft movement and associated arrangements, not simply as an ordinary seat.
State whether you need one way, a return, several stops or an aircraft remaining available for a period. Give the intended timetable and any flexibility. Positioning, waiting, operating hours and return movements can affect the proposal. Do not compare a simple one-way headline figure with a quote that includes several sectors and waiting.
Small planes and private jets: check the actual aircraft
The number of seats in an aircraft brochure is not the complete capacity assessment for a particular journey. Supply passenger count and baggage quantity and dimensions, and disclose unusual items. The operator must assess the actual aircraft, route and load. Do not assume that an item accepted on a larger scheduled service will fit a small aircraft’s door or luggage compartment.
Ask who operates the flight and what aircraft is offered, including any substitution process. The NCAA air-operator certification guidance is an official reference for commercial air-transport oversight. Verify the provider’s current authority and suitability through the appropriate channels; ownership of an aircraft alone does not establish approval for the proposed commercial service.
Helicopter enquiries: establish the landing locations
Give the actual departure and arrival facilities and the purpose of the trip. A property address or open area is not automatically a permitted or suitable landing site. The responsible operator should confirm facilities, permissions, access, operating limits and current conditions for the planned movement. Any ground transfer to a heliport is a separate part of the journey.
For crew or project travel, provide the group, baggage, timing and receiving arrangements through the appropriate private enquiry. If the request involves medical transport, use the qualified medical and aviation providers’ assessment. An ordinary passenger charter must not be treated as a substitute for an appropriately arranged medical flight.
Cargo requires its own acceptance
Describe contents, packaged dimensions, weight, handling and any regulated or dangerous-goods characteristics before a provider prices the flight. A passenger seat booking does not reserve cargo space, and a chartered passenger aircraft does not automatically accept every shipment. Keep the cargo assessment and acceptance in writing, with the intended loading and receiving method.
For an urgent spare part, consider whether an available scheduled freight service or a charter is appropriate for the actual delivery deadline. The quotation needs to include any airport handling and road transport, not only flying time. Tell Travo whether the final destination is an airport, warehouse, worksite or another address.
Compare a complete charter proposal
Ask for the operator, aircraft, route, dates, passenger and baggage terms, airport or heliport access, ground handling, transfers, waiting and any additional charges. Establish cancellation, substitution and delay procedures before payment. A proposal should identify what remains subject to confirmation so that a preliminary estimate is not mistaken for an issued flight arrangement.
Use the Lagos transport-hub guide to plan the airport or heliport connection and the accommodation and business-venue guide for the rest of the itinerary. A successful charter enquiry includes the full trip, including how passengers or goods leave the arrival facility.
