What is a DHL package box?
DHL Express sells branded boxes and flyers in several sizes at its service points, and you can also use your own strong carton. DHL Nigeria’s walk-in Express Easy service accepts parcels from 500 g to 25 kg, paid in cash or by card. Whatever box you use, the contents are covered by DHL’s terms and by customs rules in Nigeria and the destination country. The box does not change what you are allowed to send.
DHL prohibited items: cash and currency
DHL’s published list of items it will not ship under any circumstances includes:

For Nigeria, a DHL country sheet adds further prohibited commodities, including antiques, furs, gambling devices, blank invoices, ivory, jewellery, military equipment, precious metals and stones, and tobacco. The sheet is undated, so check with DHL for the current list before you pack valuables.
What happens if you hide money in a parcel?
- Seizure: DHL says shipments with prohibited items are stopped and seized by the authorities.
- Destruction or return at your cost: goods may be destroyed or sent back, and you pay.
- No protection: DHL does not provide shipment value protection for packages with prohibited items, and delivery charges are not refunded.
- Legal risk: undeclared cash can be treated as a customs or money-laundering matter in Nigeria and abroad, leading to fines or prosecution.
Parcels are X-rayed and can be opened by customs. A false declaration on the waybill makes the problem worse, and it can also delay any genuine items in the same box.
