If you searched “postal code Owerri”, you probably need one of these codes to finish an online order, a bank form or a visa application. This guide gives the full Owerri North list by district, with the villages and communities under each code, and explains what to do when directories disagree.

Owerri North LGA at a glance

Owerri North is one of the three local government areas that make up Owerri city, alongside Owerri Municipal and Owerri West, according to Wikipedia. Its headquarters is Orie Uratta, it covers about 198 square kilometres and it had 175,395 residents at the 2006 census. The LGA is semi-urban and wraps around Owerri Municipal, which is why many addresses that people think of as “Owerri” actually fall inside Owerri North.

Well-known communities include Amakohia and Akwakuma to the north, Orji to the east, Obibi-Uratta and Ihitte-Oha to the west, and Egbu, Emekuku, Naze and Agbala to the south.

Both directories describe the Owerri North range as 460103 to 460112, but neither lists districts under 460106, 460107 or 460110. If someone gives you one of those codes, ask where it came from before you rely on it.

A note on Awaka

Older copies of this guide listed Awaka as a separate district with 460106. Both directories we checked now place Awaka under Emekuku (460109). For Awaka addresses, 460109 is the code the current directories agree on.

What about Owerri Municipal and Owerri West?

All Owerri addresses start with 460, the prefix listed for the city on Wikipedia. Owerri Municipal and Owerri West have their own district codes, which are not covered on this page. If your street is in the city centre, check whether it falls in Owerri Municipal before using an Owerri North code.
