Quick answer
FedEx charges for shipments leaving Nigeria in US dollars, using a published rate guide that has applied since 5 January 2026. Your price is the base rate for the destination zone, service and weight, plus a weekly fuel surcharge and, since 21 September 2026, a demand surcharge of USD 1.32 per kg to the US and Canada (USD 0.99 per kg to most other regions). A FedEx Envelope of documents to the US starts from a base of about USD 57.10 before surcharges, so get a live quote before you pay.

This guide explains how a FedEx price from Nigeria is built, shows the 2026 figures we could confirm from FedEx Nigeria’s own rate pages, and lists the surcharges that often push the final bill above the headline rate. FedEx price list from Nigeria (2026 starting rates)
FedEx Nigeria publishes separate export, import and International Priority Express rate guides on its rates and tariffs page. The export guide sorts countries into zones A to J. The table below shows the zones for the most popular destinations and the lowest weight bands we could read clearly from the export guide.
| Destination | FedEx zone (export) | FedEx Envelope (documents) | FedEx Pak (lightest band) |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | A | USD 57.10 | USD 57.50 |
| Canada | A | USD 57.10 | USD 57.50 |
| United Kingdom | J | USD 100.70 | USD 101.50 |
| Ghana | G | USD 111.70 | USD 130.60 |
| China | E | See rate guide | See rate guide |

Heavier parcels are priced by weight band up to 20 kg and then per kilogram above that, and the per-kg price falls as weight rises. Because the published PDF is long and set out in narrow columns, look up your exact weight in the FedEx Nigeria export rate guide (PDF) or use the FedEx rate tool rather than relying on a copied table.
What decides your FedEx shipping rate
- Destination zone. The US and Canada share Zone A, the cheapest zone for exports from Nigeria. The UK sits in Zone J and Ghana in Zone G, both of which cost more.
- Service. FedEx International Priority is the fast service. International Economy, Priority Freight, Economy Freight, International Priority Express and International First are priced separately.
- Billable weight. Couriers charge on the higher of actual weight and dimensional (volume) weight, so a light but bulky box can cost more than you expect.
- Surcharges. Fuel, demand, extended-area and handling charges are added on top of the base rate (see below).
- Exchange rate. Rates are in US dollars, so the naira amount you pay depends on the rate on the day you book.
- Duties and taxes. Import duties and taxes in the destination country are separate from the shipping charge and are usually paid by the receiver unless you arrange otherwise.

Worked example of the demand surcharge: a 5 kg box to the US adds 5 × USD 1.32 = USD 6.60 to the base rate. The same box to the UK adds 5 × USD 0.99 = USD 4.95. The full rates are in the FedEx demand surcharge notice (PDF).
How to get an exact FedEx quote
- Open the FedEx Nigeria rate tool (Rating page) on fedex.com/en-ng.
- Enter the origin city in Nigeria and the destination address.
- Enter the weight and box dimensions, and pick your ship date.
- Click “Show rates” to compare services, then add any surcharges that apply.
- Before you pay, ask the counter for the full amount in naira, including fuel and demand surcharges.
FedEx notes that quoted rates can differ from the final charge because of actual weight, dimensions, currency conversion and other factors, so weigh and measure your parcel before you book.

How to reduce your FedEx shipping cost
- Use the smallest strong box that fits, so you are not charged for empty space.
- Send documents in a FedEx Envelope rather than a box.
- Group several items into one shipment. Per-kg rates fall as weight rises.
- Choose Economy when the delivery date is not urgent.
- Check that the address is complete so you avoid the USD 9 address-correction fee.
- Compare with other couriers, such as UPS Nigeria or DHL (see our DHL Nigeria to Canada price list).
- For heavy, non-urgent goods to the US, compare sea freight too. Our guide on Nigeria to USA shipping times by sea explains the trade-off.
Common mistakes that raise the bill
- Quoting the actual weight when the box is large. The courier will bill the dimensional weight.
- Forgetting the demand surcharge, which applies per kilogram.
- Sending restricted items. The unauthorised package charge is USD 280.
- Leaving out a phone number or postcode, which can delay delivery or add fees.
- Paying cash to someone who is not at an official counter. Pay only at Red Star or FedEx outlets or through official channels.
