Travelling by air should not become stressful or unnecessarily expensive because of age. For older Nigerians visiting family, attending medical appointments, or travelling abroad, finding affordable tickets with suitable travel arrangements makes a significant difference.
Senior citizen flight deals can help elderly passengers manage travel expenses while enjoying a more comfortable journey. However, getting a good deal involves more than finding the cheapest ticket. Flight schedules, airport assistance, baggage allowances, and connection times also deserve attention.
Travo.ng helps travellers explore flight booking options and coordinate practical travel arrangements based on their needs.
Where to Find Senior Citizen Flight Deals in Nigeria
Not every airline operating in Nigeria offers dedicated senior citizen discounts. Some airlines provide age-related promotions on selected routes, while others charge standard fares regardless of passenger age.
Travellers should compare available tickets before making payments.
Popular routes worth checking include:
- Lagos to Abuja for family visits and medical appointments.
- Abuja to Port Harcourt for domestic travel.
- Lagos to London for visiting relatives abroad.
- Lagos to Dubai for international trips.
- Abuja to Accra for regional travel.
Airlines may have different age requirements for senior discounts, commonly starting at 60 or 65 where such offers exist.
Always confirm eligibility directly before booking.
How to Get Cheaper Flights for Elderly Passengers
Booking early can improve the chances of finding affordable airfares, particularly during busy travel periods.
December, Easter, and major public holidays often bring increased passenger demand across Nigerian airports.
For elderly passengers with flexible schedules, travelling outside these periods may provide better options.
Other practical ways to reduce flight expenses include:
- Comparing weekday and weekend departures.
- Checking alternative travel dates.
- Choosing direct flights when affordable.
- Reviewing baggage charges before payment.
- Comparing promotional fares with standard tickets.
A cheaper connecting flight may not be worthwhile if an elderly passenger must spend several uncomfortable hours waiting at another airport.
Airport Assistance That Makes Senior Travel Easier
Older passengers sometimes require additional support when navigating busy airports.
At Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos or Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, walking distances, security queues, and boarding procedures can become tiring.
Passengers with reduced mobility can request wheelchair assistance through their airline, preferably before departure.
Families should also confirm whether the airline provides assistance during boarding, connections, and arrival.
For elderly travellers arriving in Lagos, arranging airport pickup beforehand reduces the difficulty of negotiating transport after a long flight.
Travo.ng can assist with airport pickup coordination and suitable transport arrangements.
Choosing Comfortable Flights Without Overspending
Comfort matters when booking flights for senior citizens, especially on international journeys lasting several hours.
A direct flight may cost more initially but eliminate stressful connections and additional airport transfers.
Families should consider departure times, seating preferences, baggage requirements, and accessibility before choosing tickets.
For passengers travelling for medical reasons, confirm fitness-to-fly requirements with the airline and relevant healthcare professional where necessary.
Keep medication, identification documents, and important contact information in accessible hand luggage.
These preparations help prevent avoidable difficulties during travel.
