Nobody wants to spend several hours travelling in an uncomfortable seat, especially on a busy Nigerian route. Whether you’re flying from Lagos to Abuja or taking a bus from Lagos to Benin City, where you sit can affect your entire journey.
Seat selection during booking allows passengers to choose preferred seats before travelling, rather than waiting until departure. For families, business travellers, elderly passengers, and people travelling long distances, making this decision early can prevent unnecessary stress.
With Travo.ng, travellers can arrange transport bookings and request seating preferences based on available options.
How Seat Selection During Booking Works
Seat selection depends on the airline or transport operator handling your journey.
Some operators display available seats during reservation, while others assign seats automatically or allow passengers to request specific positions.
For domestic flights, passengers may choose window, aisle, or extra-legroom seats where available. Additional charges sometimes apply.
For interstate buses, seating arrangements depend on the vehicle type and the operator’s reservation system.
Before confirming payment, check whether your preferred seat is guaranteed or simply recorded as a request.
Choosing the Right Seat for Nigerian Road Trips
Long-distance road journeys require more planning than short movements within Lagos.
A trip from Lagos to Abuja can take approximately 10–14 hours or longer, depending on traffic, road conditions, and stops.
Your seating position can make a noticeable difference.
- Front seats: Often preferred by passengers who experience motion sickness.
- Window seats: Suitable for travellers who enjoy outside views or prefer leaning against the window.
- Aisle seats: Convenient for passengers who want easier movement.
- Middle seats: Sometimes less comfortable on fully occupied buses.
For families travelling together, requesting adjacent seats early is particularly important during Christmas, Easter, and other busy travel periods.
Selecting Seats When Booking Domestic Flights
Air travel presents different seating considerations.
On popular routes such as Lagos–Abuja, Lagos–Port Harcourt, and Abuja–Kano, passengers may have limited choices when booking close to departure.
Window seats are popular among travellers who prefer uninterrupted views, while aisle seats provide easier access when permitted.
Passengers needing additional legroom should check airline restrictions before selecting emergency exit rows.
Remember that seat availability, charges, and assignment policies vary between airlines.
Booking earlier generally improves your chances of securing a preferred position, although aircraft changes can affect confirmed arrangements.
Common Seat Booking Mistakes to Avoid
One common mistake is assuming that purchasing multiple tickets automatically guarantees seats together.
Another is ignoring seat selection charges until the final payment stage.
Travellers should also avoid choosing seats without checking the vehicle configuration.
A seat number that looks convenient on one bus may occupy a different position on another.
Always confirm your departure date, passenger details, seating preferences, and operator conditions before completing payment.
