Knowing how to download boarding pass online can save you unnecessary stress at the airport. Whether you are flying from Lagos to Abuja, Port Harcourt to Lagos, or travelling internationally, having your boarding pass ready makes airport procedures easier.
Many Nigerian travellers still wait until they reach the airport before checking in. However, most airlines now allow passengers to complete online check-in and access their boarding passes before departure.
Here is how to get yours without confusion.
How to Download Boarding Pass After Booking a Flight
Once your flight ticket is confirmed, you can usually download your boarding pass through the airline’s website or mobile application when online check-in opens.
Follow these steps:
- Visit your airline’s official website or mobile app.
- Find the online check-in section.
- Enter your booking reference or PNR and surname.
- Confirm your flight and passenger details.
- Select your seat if the airline allows it.
- Complete the check-in process.
- Download your boarding pass as a PDF or save it to your phone.
Some airlines also send boarding passes directly to passengers through email.
Remember that a flight booking confirmation is different from a boarding pass. You generally receive your boarding pass only after completing check-in.
When Can You Download Boarding Pass Before Departure?
Online check-in availability depends on the airline and route.
Many airlines open online check-in approximately 24 to 48 hours before departure, although some have different schedules.
For example, if you are travelling from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, check your airline’s online check-in opening time the day before travelling.
International passengers may also need passport verification or additional document checks before receiving their boarding passes.
Completing online check-in early gives you more time to resolve booking problems.
Can You Use a Boarding Pass on Your Phone in Nigeria?
Many airlines support electronic boarding passes, but acceptance depends on the airline and airport procedures.
If your airline provides a mobile boarding pass, save it somewhere accessible without internet access.
You can:
- Save the boarding pass as a PDF.
- Take a screenshot showing the complete QR code.
- Keep a copy in your email.
- Print a backup when necessary.
At busy airports like Lagos and Abuja, internet connectivity can sometimes be unreliable.
Having an offline copy prevents delays when airport officials request your travel documents.
What to Do When Your Boarding Pass Will Not Download
Sometimes passengers complete check-in successfully but cannot download their boarding passes.
Common causes include poor internet connections, incorrect booking details, airline website problems, or incomplete passenger verification.
First, confirm that your booking reference and surname match your ticket.
Next, check your email for a boarding pass attachment.
If the problem continues, contact the airline or visit its check-in counter early.
Do not assume that payment confirmation means you have completed check-in.
