Planning a trip from Nigeria to the United Kingdom can be exciting, but finding the right flight is not always straightforward. Ticket prices change frequently, airlines offer different baggage allowances, and choosing the wrong departure date can increase your travel expenses.
If you want to book flights to London, understanding airline options, ticket prices, and booking requirements can help you avoid unnecessary costs.
Whether you are travelling for business, education, family visits, or holidays, Travo.ng helps travellers arrange flight bookings and plan their journeys with greater convenience.
Where to Find Flights from Nigeria to London
Most Nigerian travellers depart from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos or Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
London has several airports, but Heathrow and Gatwick are common arrival points for international travellers.
Flight options generally include:
- Direct flights: Suitable for travellers who prefer shorter journeys without connections.
- Connecting flights: May offer cheaper fares depending on the airline and travel dates.
- Economy flights: Practical for travellers managing a limited budget.
- Business class flights: Suitable for passengers seeking additional comfort and flexibility.
Direct flights from Lagos to London typically take approximately six to seven hours, while connecting journeys can take considerably longer.
How Much Does It Cost to Book Flights to London?
Flight prices depend on your departure city, airline, travel season, booking date, and ticket conditions.
For budgeting purposes, a return economy ticket from Lagos to London may cost around ₦900,000 to ₦2,000,000 or more. This is an illustrative range, not a live quotation.
Prices often increase during December holidays, summer travel periods, and major school breaks.
Booking several weeks or months ahead can improve your chances of finding affordable tickets, although cheaper fares are never guaranteed.
Before paying, compare the total ticket cost, including baggage charges, seat selection, and change fees.
Choosing Between Lagos and Abuja Departures
Your departure airport can affect your overall travel expenses.
For someone living in Ibadan, travelling through Lagos may be more convenient than arranging an additional journey to Abuja.
However, an Abuja resident might save money by departing locally instead of paying for domestic transport and accommodation in Lagos.
Compare the complete journey cost rather than focusing only on the international airfare.
Travo.ng can also assist with airport pickup arrangements and hotel reservations when additional travel coordination is required.
What to Check Before Paying for Your London Flight
Before confirming your reservation, check these important details:
- Ensure your international passport meets UK entry requirements.
- Confirm your UK visa or other permission to travel.
- Check whether your flight includes checked baggage.
- Review cancellation and date-change conditions.
- Confirm the departure terminal and arrival airport.
- Check transit visa requirements if your journey involves another country.
Your passport name must match your airline reservation. Even a small spelling mistake can create problems during check-in.
Also, avoid purchasing a non-refundable ticket before your visa decision unless you understand the financial risk.
When Should You Book Your London Flight?
Travellers with flexible schedules should compare departures across different weekdays.
Flying outside peak holiday periods may provide better fare options.
For students travelling to London in September, booking early is particularly useful because demand can increase around university resumption dates.
Business travellers should prioritise suitable arrival times, baggage allowances, and ticket flexibility rather than choosing the cheapest fare automatically.
