Driving yourself to the airport can be convenient, especially when travelling early in the morning or returning late at night. However, finding somewhere suitable to leave your vehicle for several days can become stressful.
Offsite airport parking in Lagos offers an alternative for travellers who prefer leaving their cars at a parking facility outside the airport while arranging transport to the terminal.
For passengers using Murtala Muhammed International Airport or the domestic terminals in Ikeja, understanding how offsite parking works can help prevent unnecessary delays and parking problems.
How Offsite Airport Parking Works in Lagos
Offsite airport parking involves leaving your vehicle at a designated parking facility outside the airport premises.
Depending on the operator, the facility may provide security arrangements, overnight parking, and transportation to the airport.
For example, someone travelling from Lekki to Abuja for four days might prefer driving to a parking location around Ikeja rather than arranging separate taxis for departure and arrival.
Before choosing a facility, confirm whether overnight parking is permitted and whether airport transfers are included.
Not every private car park near the airport provides long-term parking services.
Choosing Offsite Airport Parking in Lagos
Location is important when selecting airport parking, but proximity alone should not determine your decision.
A facility around Airport Road, Ajao Estate, or Ikeja may appear convenient. However, traffic conditions and terminal access can affect how quickly you reach your flight.
Before paying, check the following:
- Security: Confirm whether the facility has controlled entry, surveillance, and overnight attendants.
- Parking duration: Ask whether vehicles can remain for several days.
- Transfer arrangements: Confirm how passengers reach the airport terminal.
- Operating hours: Ensure vehicle collection is possible after late-night arrivals.
- Parking charges: Request the complete cost before leaving your vehicle.
Travellers should also inspect their vehicles and document their condition before handing over the keys.
What Does Airport Parking Cost in Lagos?
Parking charges depend on the facility, vehicle size, security arrangements, and duration.
Some operators charge daily, while others may offer negotiated rates for extended stays.
For example, a hypothetical parking charge of ₦5,000 daily would cost ₦20,000 for four days, excluding airport transfers.
This is only a budgeting illustration, not a verified Lagos parking tariff.
Always request a current quotation and confirm whether additional charges apply for overnight storage, late collection, or shuttle transportation.
Comparing the complete parking cost against return airport transfers can help you decide which option offers better value.
Plan Your Airport Transfer Before Leaving Home
One common mistake travellers make is arranging parking without considering the journey between the facility and their departure terminal.
Lagos airport traffic can become unpredictable, particularly during weekday rush hours, festive periods, and busy travel seasons.
If your flight departs from the international terminal, confirm that your parking provider can arrange transportation directly to the correct entrance.
Domestic passengers should also verify their airline’s departure terminal.
Allow extra time for parking registration, luggage handling, traffic, and airport check-in.
When Airport Pickup Is a Better Alternative
Offsite parking may not always be the most convenient option.
For travellers leaving Lagos for a week or longer, arranging a dedicated airport pickup can eliminate parking expenses and concerns about leaving a vehicle unattended.
