Airport parking can quietly increase your travel expenses, especially when you’re flying out of Lagos for several days. Between parking charges, airport traffic, and the cost of getting your vehicle back home, driving yourself is not always the cheapest option.
If you want to save on Lagos airport parking, planning your airport transportation before departure can make a noticeable difference.
Whether you’re travelling for business, visiting family, or catching an international flight, there are practical ways to reduce parking expenses at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Compare Airport Parking Costs Before Driving
One common mistake travellers make is assuming airport parking will be cheaper than booking transportation.
Parking charges depend on the terminal, parking facility, vehicle category, and duration. Short visits may be manageable, but leaving a vehicle for several days can become expensive.
Before travelling, confirm the current parking rates with the facility.
For example, someone travelling from Ikeja to Abuja for four days should compare the total parking cost with the price of an airport drop-off and return pickup.
Remember to include fuel, tolls, and possible waiting charges when calculating expenses.
Book an Airport Pickup Instead of Leaving Your Car
One practical way to save on Lagos airport parking is to arrange transportation directly from your home or office.
Travellers departing from Lekki, Victoria Island, Surulere, or Yaba can book airport transfers instead of driving and leaving their vehicles behind.
Travo.ng provides airport pickup and transport coordination services that help travellers arrange convenient journeys to and from Lagos airports.
This option is particularly useful for passengers travelling for several days or returning late at night.
Booking ahead also helps you avoid searching for transportation after a tiring flight.
Avoid Parking Charges Caused by Flight Delays
Flight delays can affect parking expenses, particularly when vehicles remain in paid parking areas longer than expected.
If you’re dropping someone off at Lagos airport, avoid entering a paid parking facility too early.
Confirm the passenger’s flight status and terminal before leaving home.
For arriving passengers, wait until they have cleared baggage collection and are ready for pickup before coordinating the driver’s arrival.
International arrivals may take additional time because of immigration procedures and baggage clearance.
Good communication reduces unnecessary waiting and parking costs.
Choose the Right Time to Travel to Lagos Airport
Traffic around Ikeja, Oshodi, Airport Road, and connecting routes can disrupt airport plans.
Travellers coming from Lekki or Victoria Island should allow additional travel time during weekday rush hours.
However, arriving excessively early without a clear plan can also create unnecessary parking expenses.
For international flights, follow your airline’s recommended arrival time, usually around three hours before departure.
Domestic passengers should confirm their airline’s check-in requirements and allow enough time for security procedures.
Share Airport Transportation When Travelling Together
Families, colleagues, and groups travelling on the same flight can reduce transportation expenses by booking one suitable vehicle.
Instead of driving multiple cars and paying separate parking charges, arrange a vehicle that accommodates everyone and their luggage.
For corporate travellers, coordinated airport transfers can simplify movement between offices, hotels, and airport terminals.
Travo.ng can assist with transport coordination and suitable vehicle hire arrangements based on travel requirements.
Plan Your Return Journey Before Departure
Saving money on airport parking requires thinking beyond your departure date.
Arrange your return pickup before travelling, especially if your flight lands late or during a busy holiday period.
Provide your driver with your flight number, terminal, expected arrival time, and contact details.
Confirm whether waiting charges apply if your flight is delayed.
With Travo.ng, travellers can arrange airport transportation and related travel support without depending on long-term parking.
The simplest way to save on Lagos airport parking is to compare your options early, avoid unnecessary waiting, and book reliable transportation that matches your travel schedule.
