Quick answer
Uber stopped operating in Nigeria on 2 September 2026, so you can no longer order one in Lagos. To get a ride now, open Bolt, enter your destination, check the price and confirm; or open inDrive, offer your own fare and accept a driver’s offer; or book a driver in advance on Travo. The steps for each are below.
Uber wound down its Nigerian operations after 12 years, having launched in Lagos in 2014, according to Channels TV, Vanguard and Bloomberg. Its help centre stayed open for account queries until 23 September 2026. The good news is that two other ride-hailing apps are still running in Lagos, and many former Uber drivers have moved to them: Technext reports that Moove now lets its drivers operate on Bolt and inDrive.
Which option suits you?
| Option | How the price is set | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bolt | The app calculates a price from a start fee, distance and time (last verified Lagos card: June 2023) | Quick, on-demand trips where you want a quoted price | Prices rise when demand is high; driver action planned for October 2026 |
| inDrive | You propose a fare; drivers accept or counter; service fee about 10% per TheCable | Riders who are happy to negotiate and compare offers | Takes a minute or two longer; check the car and plate before you get in |
| Travo driver booking | You book in advance and see a quote before you confirm | Fixed-time trips, airport runs, several stops or a whole day | Needs a little advance notice; not an instant app hail |

How to order a ride on Bolt in Lagos
- Install the app and sign up. Download Bolt from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and register with your phone number. Use a number you can answer during the trip.
- Check your pickup pin. Bolt’s support page tells riders to check the green pin on the map and move it if needed. In Lagos, GPS can drift, so drag the pin to a spot a car can actually stop, such as a gate or a main-road landmark.
- Choose your destination and any extra stops. The support page describes the flow as: choose your destination, add extra stops if needed, select the preferred category, then confirm your request.
- Pick a category and read the price. Compare the options on screen. The fare shown is built from a start fee, distance and time, so a trip through heavy traffic costs more.
- Confirm and wait. Once a driver accepts, the app shows their name, car and plate number.
- Match the car before you get in. Check the plate and driver against the app, and ask the driver to confirm your name rather than telling them yours.
- Pay as the app instructs. Payment options vary by account and app version, so check what the app offers before you request.

How to order a ride on inDrive in Lagos
- Install the app and register. Download inDrive and sign up with your phone number. Legit.ng lists Lagos among the seven cities it serves.
- Enter pickup and destination. Move the pin to a safe, reachable spot.
- Offer your fare. inDrive does not use an algorithm to set prices: you propose a fare and drivers accept or counter, per TheCable. A sensible offer is close to the Bolt price for the same route.
- Compare the offers. Drivers who respond appear with their price. Look at the driver’s rating, the car and how far away they are, not only the price.
- Accept one offer. Agree the fare before the car moves. The fare you accept is the one you should pay, apart from any change you agree in the app.
- Check the plate and ride. As with any app, confirm the car and driver match before you get in.
Screens change with app updates, so follow the on-screen prompts if a button has moved. We could not open inDrive’s own pages from our research environment, so the screen-level details above are described in general terms.
How to book a Travo driver instead
A booked driver is the better choice when the time matters more than the last ₦500: an early flight, a business meeting or a day with several stops. Here is how it works:
- Open the Travo driver booking page.
- Enter the details the form asks for, such as pickup point, date and time, and what you need the driver for.
- Review the quote shown for your request.
- Confirm the booking. If you would rather talk it through, message us on WhatsApp.
For an arrival, use the airport pickup booking so someone is waiting for you. Form fields can change, so follow the page as it appears.
Prefer a fixed plan to a fare lottery?
Book a driver in advance and see the quote before you confirm. Useful for airport runs, meetings and full-day trips in Lagos.
Plan for a driver shutdown
Legit.ng reports that the Lagos council of the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria plans an October 2026 shutdown of Bolt and inDrive, demanding a 10% commission cap. The article gives no exact date. If it goes ahead, expect long waits and higher prices. For a flight, an exam or a hospital appointment, book a driver ahead of time and keep a second option ready.
Safety checklist for any ride in Lagos
- Share your trip details with someone you trust if the app allows it, or send them the plate number.
- Sit in the back if you are alone, and keep your phone away from open windows in traffic.
- Do not get in if the car, plate or driver differs from the app.
- In an emergency, call 112, Nigeria’s emergency number.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still use Uber in Lagos?
No. Uber stopped operating in Nigeria on 2 September 2026. Use Bolt, inDrive or a booked driver instead.
What happens to my old Uber account or balance?
Uber kept its help centre open for account queries until 23 September 2026. If you still have a question about a refund or balance, check the Uber app or website for any remaining instructions.
Is Bolt or inDrive better in Lagos?
Bolt gives a calculated price quickly, while inDrive lets you negotiate. Many riders keep both apps and compare for each trip.
Can I pay cash on these apps?
Payment options vary by account and app version, so check the payment screen in the app before you order.
Can I book a ride in advance?
On an app hail, you usually order when you need the car. For fixed times such as flights, a booked driver on Travo is more predictable.
How do I reach Bolt or inDrive support?
