Booking a flight in Nigeria can be frustrating when different airlines offer similar routes at different prices. A ticket that looks cheap initially may become expensive after adding baggage fees or changing your travel date. Knowing how to compare airlines side by side helps you choose flights based on actual value rather than ticket prices alone.
Whether you’re travelling from Lagos to Abuja, Port Harcourt to Kano, or Nigeria to another country, comparing your options properly can save money and prevent unnecessary booking problems.
How to Compare Airlines Side by Side Without Missing Important Details
Many travellers focus on ticket prices without checking what each airline includes. However, two flights departing from the same airport can offer different baggage allowances, departure times, and ticket conditions.
Before choosing an airline, compare these details:
- Ticket price: Check the total fare, including taxes and applicable booking charges.
- Baggage allowance: Confirm whether checked luggage is included.
- Departure time: Choose a schedule that suits your airport arrival plans.
- Flight duration: Check whether the journey is direct or involves connections.
- Cancellation policies: Understand the conditions for refunds and flight changes.
- Airport location: Confirm the correct departure and arrival terminals.

Comparing Flight Prices Between Nigerian Airlines
Domestic flight prices in Nigeria can change significantly depending on demand, booking dates, and available seats.
For example, someone travelling from Lagos to Abuja might consider Air Peace, United Nigeria Airlines, or another carrier operating the route on their preferred date.
Instead of selecting the first available ticket, compare departure schedules, fare conditions, and baggage allowances.
A cheaper flight departing late in the evening may not be convenient if you have an important meeting in Abuja that afternoon.
For business travellers, choosing the right departure time can be more valuable than saving a small amount on airfare.
Check Baggage Rules Before Choosing the Cheapest Flight
Baggage allowances are particularly important when comparing domestic and international airlines.
Some ticket categories include checked luggage, while others offer only cabin baggage.
Imagine booking a flight from Lagos to Accra for a short business trip. If you’re travelling with product samples or additional luggage, a cheaper ticket with limited baggage may cost more after additional charges.
Always confirm luggage weight limits and excess baggage fees before making payment.
This is especially useful for families, students, and travellers carrying several suitcases.
The Best Time to Compare Flight Options in Nigeria
Flight availability often becomes tighter during Christmas, Easter, public holidays, and major travel periods.
Routes connecting Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and other busy destinations may experience increased demand.
Checking available flights several weeks before travelling gives you more flexibility.
For international journeys, compare connecting flights carefully. A cheaper itinerary with a lengthy layover may create additional expenses for meals, accommodation, or airport transfers.
Also confirm transit visa requirements where applicable.
