Air Tanzania cargo booking depends on whether you need general freight, a specialist cargo service or a domestic parcel movement. Describe the goods before requesting a price so the team can identify the appropriate product. Passenger booking and cargo acceptance follow different processes.
The airline’s official cargo services page lists general cargo, live animals, perishables, valuables, vulnerable goods, human remains, express parcels and dangerous goods. Its separate domestic parcel description covers spares, documents, personal effects and dry medicine. Special cargo such as dangerous goods, live animals, human remains and perishables is excluded from that parcel product.
Air Tanzania cargo and parcel contacts
The cargo page publishes +255 736 787721 for cargo and +255 736 787722 for parcel enquiries. Recheck the current directory when booking and ask which receiving facility serves the actual departure. An office enquiry should lead to instructions for the goods, rather than a passenger check-in assumption.
Prepare a complete shipment brief
- Origin and destination, shipping date and delivery deadline.
- Contents, package count, gross weights and dimensions.
- Any batteries, liquids, chemicals, perishables or fragile items.
- Sender, receiver and destination collection contacts.
- Required airport handling, customs assistance or road delivery.
Domestic parcel rates and freight quotations
The published parcel page lists TZS 20,000 for 0–4 kg and TZS 5,000 per kg for 5–20 kg. Confirm the current rate, eligibility, weight calculation and included charges for your actual parcel before paying. These figures should not be applied to international freight or specialist cargo.
For a freight consignment, request a separate written quote based on dimensions, weight, contents and route. Ask about the minimum charge, screening, documentation and terminal handling. State whether you need airport collection or delivery beyond the airport so quotations can be compared on the same basis.
Confirm eligibility before packing
For a spare part, explain any battery, residual fluid or other characteristic affecting acceptance. A broad parcel category does not remove the need to declare restricted contents. For medicine, ask which handling conditions and approvals apply; an ordinary dry-medicine parcel is different from a temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipment.
For fresh produce or live animals, request the specialist cargo assessment rather than trying to use the domestic parcel product. Describe the packing, timing and receiving arrangements early enough for the team to determine what can be accepted.
Airport handover and package records
Confirm the receiving location, opening hours and cutoff before sending a driver. Ask which reference or transport document will be issued and how updates are obtained. Label each package clearly and retain a packing list for multi-piece consignments.
For international commercial goods, agree the exporter, importer and customs arrangements. Ask which documents are needed for the commodity and route. If the load changes after booking, notify the cargo team before handover so acceptance and pricing can be reassessed.
Collection and onward transport
Tell the receiver where collection takes place and what identification or authorisation is required. Ask when the goods become available after arrival and how storage is charged if collection is delayed. A flight’s landing time is not automatically the cargo release time.
For specialist goods, coordinate release with the receiving team and the required onward handling. For ordinary parcels, decide whether the recipient can collect or needs a separate local delivery arrangement. Confirm which party is responsible for that leg.
Air Tanzania cargo questions
Can perishables use the domestic parcel product?
The published parcel conditions exclude them. Ask for the appropriate specialist cargo assessment.
Are domestic parcel prices international freight rates?
No. Request a freight quotation for the actual international shipment.
Does cargo acceptance guarantee door delivery?
Confirm the endpoint and any onward delivery service explicitly.
Turn your enquiry into a workable shipping plan
For a spare sent between Tanzanian cities, the first decision is whether the parcel product can accept its actual contents and size. For a fresh-food export, the decision instead depends on specialist handling across the entire journey. Give the team the useful delivery deadline and tell the receiver what collection responsibilities remain. If several packages travel together, confirm the accepted count and how a missing piece would be followed up. Use those details to assess the service rather than relying on a passenger timetable alone.
Compare the complete quotation
Ask for the total payable for the same shipment and delivery endpoint. A lower flight charge can leave screening, storage, handling and road transport to be paid separately. Check the quotation’s expiry date, payment currency and what happens if the flight changes. Identify who will notify the receiver when the cargo is ready and who pays for a delay in collection. Keep written acceptance with the booking reference before releasing the goods.

How Travo can assist
For a consignment travelling into or out of Nigeria, Travo’s international shipping service offers freight coordination, supplier collection and consolidation, customs support through licensed clearing partners and onward delivery. If imported stock needs holding before distribution, ask about warehouse storage and fulfilment. Request the scope for your actual origin and destination, including any overseas partner arrangements and local delivery charges.
Request a shipment plan from Travo with your collection and delivery addresses, goods description, dimensions, weight and deadline. Ask which services are included, which need separate approval and what the delivery estimate depends on. This lets you coordinate the ground journey with the airline’s confirmed acceptance.
