Water in the footwell does not prove that the windscreen seal has failed. A scratched screen, a rear heater that does not clear mist and a leaking panoramic roof also need different checks. The practical starting point is to record what happens, when it happens and what work has already been done to the vehicle.
Leaking windscreen: what should be checked?
Tell the technician whether water appears after rainfall, washing or both, and whether the glass has recently been replaced. Identify where you first notice moisture rather than guessing where it entered. Have the glass installation, surrounding bodywork and other possible water paths assessed. Ask whether the proposed work is diagnosis, resealing, removal and refitting, or replacement.
Do not cover the glass edge with household sealant before the cause is established. It may obscure evidence and complicate the proper repair. Request a written explanation of the fault and the agreed test after work. If a recent installation has a warranty, contact that installer before authorising another provider to alter it.
Wiper scratches and distorted visibility
Explain whether the mark is on the inside or outside, whether it follows the wiper sweep and how it affects visibility in rain or glare. A technician should distinguish contamination, surface marking and deeper damage. Do not use abrasive household products, a drill-mounted polishing attachment or a razor to experiment on the viewing area.
Ask whether the proposed treatment can affect optical clarity and what result is realistic. A scratch, crack and chip are not interchangeable descriptions, and a chip-repair resin is not a universal scratch treatment. The chip repair guide explains why an inspection matters when you cannot identify the damage.
| Symptom | Details to send | Scope to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Water entry | Weather, washing history and visible wet area. | Leak diagnosis and the proposed sealing or glass work. |
| Wiper-shaped marks | Photos and visibility effects. | Surface assessment, wiper inspection and realistic finish. |
| Heated rear window not clearing | Which sections work and any damaged connectors. | Electrical diagnosis versus glass replacement. |
| Panoramic roof leak or damage | Exact roof panel and whether it opens. | Roof-specific mechanism, drainage and glazing assessment. |
Heated windscreens and rear-window heater repair
Tell Travo whether you mean heating in the front windscreen or the rear demister grid. A control, wiring or connection fault is different from damaged glass. Ask the technician to establish the fault before approving a replacement or buying a repair kit.
Ford’s owner guidance warns against sharp tools and harsh chemicals on the inside of heated rear glass because the grid can be damaged. Follow the manual for your vehicle. Heating features and the required replacement part vary, so a generic list of cars with heated windscreens is not sufficient for ordering yours.
Sunroof and panoramic roof enquiries in Lagos
Identify the panel, vehicle specification and whether the problem is broken glass, a moving mechanism, a seal or water entry. Do not force a jammed roof or stand beneath loose overhead glass. Roof repairs can require parts and workshop arrangements different from front-windscreen fitting. Ask which stages are included and whether the vehicle must remain at the workshop.
For every diagnosis, obtain the assessment charge, proposed next steps and approval process for extra work. Keep photographs and the invoice, particularly after earlier repairs or an insurance claim. A parts quote alone does not confirm that the underlying leak, heater or mechanical fault will be corrected.
