Quick answer
In Nigeria, dial 112 for police, fire or ambulance. It is the national toll-free emergency number. You can also call 199 for the police, 122 for the Federal Road Safety Corps (road crashes and highway emergencies) and, in Lagos State, 767 or 112 for the state emergency response services. Nigeria does not use 911. Save these numbers in your phone now, before you need them.
In an emergency, every minute counts, and many people in Nigeria are not sure which number to call. This guide lists the main national and Lagos emergency numbers for police, fire and medical help, explains what to say when you call, and covers what to do while you wait. We have checked each number against at least one published 2025 or 2026 directory, but numbers change, so always confirm with the official agency where you can.
Important: Travo.ng is a booking and logistics platform, not an emergency service. If someone’s life or safety is at risk, call 112 first.

To report police misconduct, use the Nigeria Police Force’s official complaint channels, published on the force’s verified website and social media accounts. Do not pay anyone who contacts you claiming to be able to “settle” a police matter for a fee.
Fire emergency services
Dial 112 for a fire anywhere in Nigeria. In Lagos, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is reachable on 112 and 767, with a listed landline of 01-728-0502. The Federal Fire Service is also reachable through 112.
While you wait for firefighters
- Get everyone out and stay out. Do not go back for belongings.
- If it is safe, switch off gas at the cylinder and electricity at the mains.
- Close doors behind you to slow the spread of smoke and fire.
- Keep the road to the building clear for the fire engine and send someone to guide it in.
Medical emergency services
For an ambulance, call 112. In Lagos, the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) is reached through 112 or 767, and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) also answers on 112 and 767. Emergency Response Africa runs a private toll-free line on 0800-2255-372. The Nigerian Red Cross Society lists 0803 123 0430 and 0809 993 7357.
If an ambulance will take too long and the patient can be moved safely, go straight to the nearest hospital with an emergency department. Keep a list of nearby hospitals in your phone.

Emergency support in other states
Outside Lagos, 112 is the number to remember: it routes to the police, fire and ambulance services in every state. Many state police commands, state emergency management agencies and state fire services also publish their own hotlines on their official websites and verified social media accounts. Save your state’s numbers from those official channels rather than from forwarded messages.
What to say when you call
- Stay calm and speak clearly.
- Say what the emergency is: fire, crash, medical, crime.
- Give the exact location: street, landmark, bus stop, estate or highway and direction of travel.
- Say how many people are involved and whether anyone is trapped, unconscious or bleeding heavily.
- Give your phone number and keep your line free for a call back.
- Do not hang up until the call-taker tells you to.
Road emergencies and breakdowns
After a road crash with injuries, call 112 or 122 first. For a breakdown with no one hurt, move to safety, switch on hazard lights, place your warning triangle and then arrange help. Travo can send towing and breakdown recovery, emergency fuel delivery or a locksmith. Check live Lagos traffic news before you travel.
