What pushes the price up
- Distance and bridges. Crossing between the Island and the Mainland costs more than staying on one side.
- Weight and size. Guides note extra charges once a parcel goes above about 5 kg.
- Pickup. Dropping the item at a hub can be cheaper than asking for a doorstep pickup.
- Access. Gated estates, remote addresses and long waits at the gate add time and cost.
- Urgency and time of day. Rush-hour and rain-hour trips take longer, and some riders charge more for them.
- Several drops. Businesses sending many parcels a day can often get a lower per-drop rate.

Bike delivery and the Lagos okada rules
Lagos State has restricted commercial motorcycles (okada) on major highways and in key local government areas for several years. A ThisDay report from December 2025 said the restriction still officially applies, though enforcement is uneven. The same report noted that dispatch work is not clearly covered by the ban, and that criminals have used fake dispatch uniforms and branded boxes to disguise robberies.
In practice, this means two things for customers:
- Book riders through a platform or company that can tell you who is coming, rather than flagging down an unbranded rider.
- Confirm the rider’s name, phone number and bike plate before you hand over anything valuable, and don’t let a stranger in a dispatch vest into your home or office unless you booked them.
Your bike delivery options in Lagos
Lagos has several ways to book a rider. Each suits a different job:
- On-demand delivery companies. Kwik says it delivers within two hours in the urban areas it serves and includes goods-in-transit insurance. GIG Logistics offers same-day delivery in selected cities and drop-off at its experience centres.
- Ride-hailing apps. Bolt lists Bolt Send for same-day parcel delivery in Nigeria, and Uber launched a Courier option with store pickup, live tracking and PIN verification in Lagos in December 2024. Check the app to see whether it’s available at your address.
- Independent riders. These are often cheaper, but you carry more of the risk. Agree the price, the route and what happens if the item is damaged before the rider leaves.
