The lower end of each range is usually a standard air-conditioned seat on a bus with more seats per row. Higher fares buy executive or premium coaches with fewer, wider seats, reclining chairs and sometimes on-board snacks or charging points. In the May 2026 survey, the gap between the cheapest and dearest seat with the same operator was often ₦10,000–₦20,000. On a 9–11 hour trip, a premium seat can be worth it if you are travelling overnight or have a bad back.
Journey time and route
The road trip covers about 600–650 km and usually takes 9–11 hours, depending on traffic and road works. Most buses travel through Benin City before joining the Benin–Ore–Shagamu corridor into Lagos. Delays usually build up at Lagos entry points in the evening, so an early-morning departure usually gets you in before dark.
2. Driving or car hire
Driving yourself gives you flexibility, but it is no longer the budget option it was in 2024. Petrol prices in late September 2026 were around ₦1,350–₦1,360 per litre. MRS cut its Lagos price to ₦1,350 on 27 September 2026, and independent marketers were selling at about ₦1,360.

3. Air travel
Flying is the fastest option. The flight distance is about 448 km, and direct flights take about 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes. Airlines on the Port Harcourt (PHC) to Lagos (LOS) route include Air Peace, Aero Contractors, Arik Air, United Nigeria Airlines and Ibom Air. The first departure is at about 08:40 and the last at about 20:15.

Airlines charge in naira, so expect the naira price to move with the exchange rate and with how close to departure you book. What affects the fare?
- Fuel prices. Operators review fares when pump prices move. Depot prices were falling in September 2026, but pump prices stayed above ₦1,300 per litre.
- Season. Fares usually peak around Christmas, New Year and Easter, when many people travel east and back. Book early for December.
- Bus class. Executive and premium coaches sit at the top of each operator’s range in the table above.
- Terminal and departure time. Some operators price differently from different Lagos or Port Harcourt parks.
