When an emergency happens in Nigeria, getting help quickly is more important than finding a private service provider. Emergencies involving fire, accidents, medical conditions, flooding, security threats or other immediate dangers should be reported to the appropriate emergency responders.

Nigeria is currently working toward a unified 112 national emergency number covering police, fire, ambulance, road safety and other emergency response agencies. The Federal Government announced in September 2026 that a roadmap is being developed for nationwide implementation. (Ministry of Info and Orientation)

How to Request Emergency Services in Nigeria

For an immediate emergency, call 112 and clearly explain what has happened. Give the operator:

  • Your exact location
  • A nearby landmark
  • Type of emergency
  • Number of people affected
  • Any immediate dangers
  • Your contact number
  • Information about people who may be trapped or injured

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development currently lists 112 for national emergency, police, fire and ambulance assistance. (FMHAPR)

Can You Request Emergency Services Online?

Online platforms can be useful for reporting certain non-immediate incidents or accessing government services, but an active life-threatening emergency should not be delayed while completing an online form.

For example, some government agencies provide digital reporting and service platforms. NEMSA allows users to report electrical incidents online, while NEMA provides emergency and disaster-response channels. (NEMSA)

If someone is seriously injured, a fire is spreading, a violent incident is occurring or lives are immediately threatened, call 112.

Emergency Medical Assistance

For a serious medical emergency, request emergency medical assistance as quickly as possible. NEMSAS has advised Nigerians to dial 112 for urgent medical assistance, with state-level emergency numbers also available in some locations. (Voice of Nigeria)

Give responders the patient’s location, condition and any information that may help them reach the scene quickly.

Police and Security Emergencies

For robbery, violent attacks, kidnapping, serious threats or other immediate security emergencies, contact the police through the appropriate emergency channel.

Do not confront an armed person or attempt to resolve a dangerous situation yourself. Move to a safer location if possible and provide responders with accurate information.

Fire and Road Emergencies

For a fire, accident or road-related emergency, provide the location and describe what has happened. Mention if people are trapped, vehicles are involved, fuel is leaking or there are other hazards.

The goal of the 112 initiative is to make it easier for people to reach the appropriate emergency agency without having to determine which individual agency to contact first. (Ministry of Info and Orientation)

Why Choose Travo.ng?

Travo.ng can coordinate eligible emergency logistics and transportation services where available. However, it does not replace official emergency responders.

For an active emergency involving immediate danger to life or property, contact the relevant emergency authorities directly. Travo.ng can be useful for separate transportation or logistics needs that may arise around an emergency situation.

Request Emergency Help in Nigeria

If you need immediate emergency assistance, call 112 and provide your location and details of the incident. Do not wait for an online booking or logistics service when lives are at risk.

For non-emergency transportation, mobility or logistics requirements, Travo.ng can help coordinate eligible services based on your needs.
