A development might only have two EV-driving residents when it opens. Five years later, that number could be considerably higher.

Installing chargers in every parking space immediately may not be necessary, but preparing electrical conduits, cable routes, mounting locations and spare distribution capacity during construction can make later expansion much easier.

This is particularly valuable for large estates and commercial developments where breaking completed concrete or reopening finished electrical systems can become expensive.

Future-ready planning can therefore mean installing four chargers now while preparing another 20 parking spaces for straightforward upgrades later.

Pricing varies considerably depending on charger capacity, electrical infrastructure and the distance between the power source and parking area.

A relatively straightforward AC charging installation may cost several hundred thousand naira once equipment, cables, protection devices and installation work are included. Larger installations involving multiple chargers, electrical upgrades, civil work or dedicated power infrastructure can run into several million naira.

Developers should therefore request a site-specific assessment rather than budgeting based only on the advertised price of the charger.
