Uber is no longer operating its ride-hailing service in Nigeria, but the company was not banned nationwide by the Nigerian government. Uber itself announced that it would wind down its Nigerian operations effective September 2, 2026.
Uber had operated in Nigeria for 12 years after launching in Lagos in 2014. The platform later became a major option for daily commuting, business trips and airport transportation.
Why Did Uber Stop Operating in Nigeria?
Uber said its decision followed a review of its evolving business priorities and investment focus across Africa. The company did not identify one specific reason for leaving Nigeria.
