How to Renew Your Passport

Step 1: Start Your Application

Visit the official Nigerian Immigration Service passport portal:

Select “Apply for Renewal/Re-issue.”

Step 2: Verify Your NIN

Enter your:

  • National Identification Number (NIN)
  • Date of birth

The system will verify your identity using your NIN records.  

Step 3: Complete the Application

You’ll be asked to:

  • Enter your current passport details
  • Choose your passport processing centre
  • Select your passport booklet (32-page or 64-page)
  • Upload your passport photo
  • Confirm your personal information
  • Provide your address and next-of-kin details
  • Upload the required supporting documents  

Step 4: Pay Online

After reviewing your application:

  • Submit the form
  • Pay the passport fee online
  • Print or save your payment receipt and acknowledgement slip  

Step 5: Book Your Appointment

Choose a convenient date for biometric enrolment at your selected Immigration office.  

Step 6: Visit the Passport Office

Attend your appointment with:

  • Your current passport
  • Payment receipt
  • Acknowledgement slip
  • Original supporting documents

Your fingerprints, photograph, and signature will be captured.  

Passport Fees

According to the current NIS Service Level Agreement, the standard fees within Nigeria are:

  • 32-page passport (5-year validity): ₦100,000
  • 64-page passport (10-year validity): ₦200,000

Administrative charges may apply for corrections or certain re-issue requests. Bank or payment processing charges are additional.  

Processing Time

The Nigerian Immigration Service indicates that passport renewal/re-issue is typically processed within about 21 days after successful biometric enrolment, although actual timelines may vary depending on the processing centre and application volume.
