Finding a school, university, daycare or nursery in Lagos is more than choosing a nearby address. Families and students need the correct campus, an appropriate programme or age group, current approval information and a practical daily journey. A directory is a starting point for discovery; the institution and relevant authorities are the sources for admission, approval and programme details.

Verify a Lagos school before relying on a listing
The Lagos Office of Education Quality Assurance school-verification page provides the official route for checking nursery, primary and secondary school approval information. At the review date, that page stated that its approved and verified list was being updated and advised contacting OEQA with questions. If a name cannot be found, contact the office and school rather than making an unsupported conclusion from a missing search result.
Ask for the exact registered name and campus address. A group with several campuses should be checked at the location you actually intend to use; an approval document for one site is not automatically a document for another. Arrange a visit through the school’s own channel and ask who will meet you. Confirm what information you need to bring without sending a child’s records to an unverified intermediary.
Universities: institution, campus and programme are separate checks
Use the National Universities Commission’s Nigerian University System directory for official institution information, and the NUC accreditation information when checking programmes. Recognition of an institution does not establish the current accreditation status of every course, campus or affiliated arrangement. Confirm the programme, qualification, delivery location and admission route through the appropriate official channels.
For a campus visit, identify the building or office rather than asking a driver to stop at the university name. Admissions, accommodation, examinations and graduation events may use different entrances or locations. Save the appointment time and receiving contact. A prospectus or old portal link is not a current fee quotation; confirm the session, programme and charge directly before paying.
Daycares and nurseries: questions for an in-person visit
Ask the provider about accepted ages, supervision, staff roles, opening and collection hours, visitor access, hygiene arrangements, meals and how concerns are communicated to parents. Check what approvals apply to that provider’s actual service with the relevant authority. A nursery-school listing should not be treated as proof of every form of childcare registration or capability.
Discuss authorised collection, late pickup, illness procedures, emergency contacts and communication before making a decision. Visit the premises and ask to see the areas your child would use through the provider’s appropriate visitor process. Do not rely on a building photograph, an advert or a directory category as a substitute for those checks. Keep the final decision with the parent or guardian and the relevant professional or authority where needed.
Make the daily Lagos journey practical
A school near your home may still involve an awkward route at drop-off and collection times. Test the actual journey around the hours you expect to travel. Include estate gates, school traffic, waiting and the handover procedure. If work and school are in different areas, compare the full morning and afternoon routine rather than one short map distance.
For a driver or school-run enquiry, specify the passenger ages, number travelling, schedule, pickup points and appropriate child-restraint needs. Ask the school and transport provider to agree who may receive or release each child. A general driver booking does not automatically establish a school’s approval of the arrangement. Confirm the recurring service, vehicle, handover and communication process explicitly.
Campus moves, group visits and deliveries
For students moving to a hostel or apartment, send the item list, building access, stairs, receiving contact and permitted arrival time before booking a van. For group campus visits, check the institution’s visitor process, participant count, luggage and parking. Documents or supplies can use an agreed delivery arrangement, but admissions applications, fees and sensitive records should follow the institution’s official channels.
