Caverton Marine has developed and demonstrated the Electric OMIBUS, an electric passenger ferry built and tested in Lagos.
The vessel is a 12-metre, 28-seat fully electric ferry using electric propulsion technology from ExploMar. It was demonstrated at Falomo Jetty in Lagos in November 2025.
Caverton describes the vessel as Africa’s first electric ferry and has continued developing its electric marine programme.
In April 2026, Caverton agreed to acquire 20 electric propulsion systems from ExploMar as part of efforts to expand electric ferry operations in Lagos.
LAGFERRY Electric Boats
The Lagos State Government has also announced plans to introduce electric-powered boats into the LAGFERRY fleet.
